Herwin van Welbergen

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Social Cognitive Systems group at the Center of Excellence ‘Cognitive Interaction Technology’ and Faculty of Technology, Bielefeld University. I have received my MSc in computer science and my PhD in Human Media Interaction from the University of Twente. Currently I'm working in the Querschnittsprojekt Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion in the Spitzencluster it's OWL.

Research interests

Human conversations are highly dynamic, responsive interactions. In such interactions, utterances are produced incrementally, subject to on-the-fly adaptation and (self) interruptions. I'm interested in developing user interfaces (ranging from social robots to virtual humans to classical mouse-keyboard UIs) that allow such a fluent interaction with a human user. My current research focusses both on the general architecture design of such user interfaces and specifically on enabling multimodal behavior generation that allows fluent interaction.
